Collaborate or Cobladderizing?

Collaborate or Coblabberizing?
Blog Discussion Question: Collaboration or Coblabberizing? In certain work places collaboration becomes an arena for negative themes, gossip, and bad mouthing other employees. In your posting describe a way to keep the following scenario from going to coblabberizing state. Scenario: Your company was just told that they failed the company quota for the year, making it 4 years in a row. Due to the continued years of failure, the company is thinking of reconstruction, reforming the company, shutting down the company and finally laying off employees that are weak. The basic groups in the company are accounting, production, transportation, sanitation, and administration. Select a group and collaborate how you would suggest a change that can make your company reach the quota. After your initial post, collaborate with others that selected the same group. Work through the ideas and come up with a general suggestion for the company’s CEO.

  1. Hi Bill,
So are we cobladderizing or coblabberizing. You've used both terms and I don't know what they mean...

That scenario you describe is very interesting, yet unfortunately, it happens. Do you think it's wise to let students choose their own groups? Based on our discussion post this week, wouldn't you agree that it would be wiser for the facilitator to match students with a group, but which group? Or are you asking students to pick one of the basic groups within the imaginary company or are you asking students to pick a group in the class?

  2. Hi Bill,

I enjoyed reading your scenerio. Unfortunately, the scenerio is one that is consistently happening in a number of workpolace. This will make an interesting collaborative discussion and project. Especially, if some learners have had personal experience with something similar to the scenerio.

I like you idea of the student's forming groups. It has been my experience as an instrucotr there is more of a sense of working together than when assigned to a team. What has been your experience?

  3. Laurie and Dr. Walker,

I feel like Dr. Walker that it is more productive to let the groups form naturally. However I did give it some focus that the groups had to be in the same department (productions, admin, etc.) Keeping it focused with people of the same job set will give the CEO the best ideas from that group.
